Dave….this is really hard…

Dave RamseyOk, we are on month three of the Dave Ramsey plan.  And, it is HARD.  I use cash probably 95% of the time.  He is totally right, it is harder to part with cash.  And, when it gets low you notice immediately.  I am using his handy dandy little pocketbook to keep my cash for my different envelopes.  I only carry around the GROCERY envelope money and the BLOW MONEY envelope – the others we manage from the house.

Month 1:  I spent $143 of $150 budget for Groceries.

Month 2:  I ran out of cash quickly (about 1/2 way into the month) and didn’t keep track of my expenses as I should have!  It takes a lot of persistence!  And, I guess I ran out of that real quick!

Month 3 (this month):  Both my blow money and grocery money are all gone! (as of June 21)

Ok, so I either have to raise my budget OR limit my spending even more!

Next month I plan to be better at keeping track of the cash – where it is spent and how much.  I hope to be able to keep at my budgeted amount for groceries and blow money…….we will see!

Just wanted to share my lack of progress with you all!  :)  We have managed to eat away at our debt significantly!  We are so excited about that!

Randall’s New Coupon Policy

Well, I hadn’t been to Randall’s in a while, so it was my first trip after their new coupon policy had been announced.  (Thanks ZM!)

I had some Neutrogena $10 RRs from Walgreens that were expiring today.  And, Randall’s new coupon policy states they accept competitor manufacturer coupons.  So…..    NEW CHANGE!  They are accepting competitor manufacturer coupons – BUT NOT OYNO coupons!

Jimmy Dean Sausage Rolls are on sale for $1.99 today and tomorrow.  There are $2/2 blinkies at our Kroger and $2/2 insert coupons in 6/13 RP.

Using the $2/2 coupons during this sale makes the sausage rolls $.99 each.  We hadn’t had breakfast sausage in a while, so we stocked up!  We bought all the sausage pictured above, lunchmeat, blueberries, and made a $1 donation to Prostate Cancer Research.  We used 3 – $10 RRs and paid $.61 OOP!

I was pretty excited about that!

Free/Cheap Coppertone at Walmart

In this weekend’s paper there is a $4/1 ANY Coppertone Suncare Product.  (EXP 6/27/10)

Walmart has the small containers with the little clips on them to clip onto a bag for $3.97.  They also have the regular sized cans for $7.XX.  I can’t remember the exact price on the cans.

So, if you don’t mind the small containers, this coupon will get you FREE Coppertone.  If you would rather have the regular size, it will give you a bit more than 50% off of the can!

Head over to Sunday Coupon Preview to see a list of other coupons that will be in tomorrow’s paper!

    Beware, Summer Readers

OK, I know this story won’t be related at all to the topic of this blog, and for that, I apologize.  But, I certainly had to share this story.

Aubrey’s school emailed out a Summer Reading list.  So, being the attempting overachiever Mom I try to be, I requested the books from the library and have been picking them up as they have become available.

Today, we picked up five books; one of which is Aesop:  The Complete Fables.  (All Aesop fables were on the list, so I decided to knock them out in one big swoop with this book!)

I just went into Aubrey and asked her how her reading was going.  She had the Aesop book in her hand.  She informed me she picked out two fables to read outloud to me:  ‘The Middle Aged Man and His Mistresses’ AND ‘The Man Who Shattered a Statue of God’.

I did all I could but to rip the book from her hands.  I calmly took it, redirected her and read the first one!  Here it is.

YIKES!  So.  Summer readers beware!  Don’t try to over achieve with THE COMPLETE FABLES !

I hope Aubrey doesn’t use this Fable to deduct why men become bald!

    FREE SAMPLE: EOS Shave Cream

Follow THIS LINK to be on your way to smoother legs!  EOS is offering a FREE sample of their Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream.

I have tried their products!  I LOVE the lip balm – it first grabbed my attention because of the cute packaging (it is the one you might have seen that is an actual ball with a screw top lid – full of GREAT lip balm.  (The packaging is in such pretty colors, too!)

And, the packaging stays consistent with their line of shave creams!  Plastic bottles (not metal that rust on the bottom!), cute colors, and a nifty pump are all parts of the cute packaging that clearly worked to lure me into their products!  I have yet to try their shave cream (but, I do have some in my stockpile!).

“The shave cream is a soap-free cream that leaves your skin soft long after you use it. Plus, you can shave wet or dry,” says EOS.

So, head on over to claim your FREE SAMPLE today!

FREE Frutista or Limeade Sparkler at TACO BELL

In case you didn’t notice, Taco Bell had an insert in the Red Plum from last weekend (6/6).  There were a bunch of coupons on their page in the insert – that will make for some great summer cooling drinks!

I clipped the FREE Frutista Margarita AND FREE Limeade Sparkler coupons and stuck them in my wallet!  I thought I would treat the kids today – after my workout at the YMCA.  (I vowed not to purchase one for myself – only for the kids!)

At the drive-thru window (thank God for those! – because if I would have had to unload the three kids from the car, we definitely wouldn’t have stopped, not even for FREE drinks!) I let the cashier know that I wanted three of the drinks and that I had three of the coupons. (we had four people in the car).

I passed her the three coupons, she passed me our YUMMY drinks and we were on our way!

I have to tell you, I wish I had a Frutista machine in my house!  These things are YUMMY!  They are fruity, refreshing, and definitely will cool you on a HOT Summer Day!

Our 4 year old opted for the Limeade Sparkler.  She took a sip and said, “This tastes like Sprite.”  I took a taste, and she was right!  But, it was much better than Sprite!  It was sooooo refreshing and yummy!

So, go clip those coupons and head to Taco Bell!

NOTE 1:  If you weren’t lucky enough to get the insert in your RP insert on 6/6 – you can GO HERE to print a FREE Limeade Sparkler coupon!

NOTE 2:  The coupon does state ONE FREE PER PERSON during the entire promotion.  They expire in July.

    Observant Shopping Pays Off

This signage caught our attention during a recent shopping trip to Wal-Mart.  My husband and I looked at each other as if to say, “REALLY?”

I snapped a picture (at the request of DH) so that the ‘honoring of the price signed’ wouldn’t take so long at the register.

First, I headed to customer service to ensure they would honor the price.  I was happy to hear the response of the nice lady working at the CS desk, “Yes, we will honor that price.”

It was very easy – I just showed this picture to the cashier, and she adjusted the price of the 2-Liter bottles down to $.06!  (I think the price is $.86).

We didn’t get a TON, because quite honestly, I didn’t think it was going to measure up to any of the name brands……  But, the Dr. Pepper knock off is actually pretty yummy!

So, lesson learned:  Be an observant shopper.

End of the Year Teacher Gift – Under $10!

I found this idea online, and LOVED it!  So, I decided to use it as a gift for our 1st Grader’s teacher this year!  I thought it was a perfect gift for a 1st Grade Teacher.

    COMPONENTS:

1 – small box of crayons (I had some from the $.25 school deals last year!)

    1 – 10X10 shadow frame (I found this at Target for $7.99)

    1 – 12 X 12 scrapbooking paper

Aubrey told me her teacher’s favorite color was PURPLE.  So, I pulled a piece of textured sparkly purple scrapbook paper from my stash.

I used the tutorial and template at Rainy Tuesday Mornings to help me get my layout started.  Then, I started picking out the crayons to make the G!

I used a quick drying craft glue to secure the crayons.  Then, used a black sharpie marker to personalize the gift with the teacher’s name.

For the back, we took a picture of Aubrey with her teacher – went over to www.crayola.com/colorme and turned it into a coloring page.  I had Aubrey color it – then write a message below the picture.

This gift was under $10.  I hope the teacher likes it!  I love that Aubrey added a little message, I think it makes the gift that much sweeter!

P.S.  Yes, if you look close, there are rebate forms under the frame on my counter.  That is on my list “TO DO” today!

$100 Gift Card Giveaway! Compliments of Cellfire!

coupons, coupon, free coupons, grocery coupons

Cellfire is offering a $100 Grocery Gift Card to one of my readers this month!

Cellfire has lots of great coupons available to load onto your frequent shopper cards!  There are a bunch of different cereal coupons to highlight this time around.  Three of them are:

Trix, Lucky Charms, Wheaties Fuel brand

We all know that, with kids, the mornings can be CRAZY!  Our house is not immune to this craziness.

This morning I looked over my shoulder as I was preparing breakfast drinks and saw a handful of Trix propelling (in grenade-like fashion) through the air from one side of the kitchen.  I followed their path all the way over to the other side of the kitchen and watched them hit the wall.  Then, I followed the path of the said Trix back to the launcher – my nearly 2 year old…..with a smirk on his face.  I hope his strong arm serves him well with a MLB contract someday…..but, until then, I guess I will continue to dodge his pitches!

Do you have a funny story about breakfast time in your house?  If so, that is your entry into the contest!  Just leave your funny story as the comment!

Want an extra chance at the prize?  Follow this link to cellfire and load your coupons.  Then, come back and tell us which one is your favorite!

Oh, and while you are there….be sure to remember to load your TRIX coupon!  Just be sure to dodge them if your child tends to throw his or her food!

As always, be sure to leave your contact information – as that is the only way we can be sure to reach you if you WIN!

Contest runs through June 30th.  Comments will be accepted until 11:59 PM on June 30th.  Winner will be announced on July 2nd and will have 48 hours to contact me with shipping address for the prize!

    **Maximum 2 entries per person.**
