Frugal Artwork

I saw a post on a blog I happened upon the other day – it showed how to use watercolors and contact paper to create a silhouette of your kiddos.  Well, I didn’t have watercolors OR contact paper.  But, we needed a project this afternoon – so we used what we had:

Long skinny black frame from IKEA. (three openings for three kids!)

Digital Camera to snap sideshots of each kiddo.

Black scrapbooking paper to cut out the silhouettes.

White paper to back the cutouts!

Here is what we came up with…..

While I did this, the girls each had a copy of their sideshot that they used to do artwork:

Randall’s $.99/lb ground beef

We saw the ad for $.99/lb ground beef at Randall’s yesterday and decided to take advantage of it – especially since we were nearly out of ground beef and we don’t plan on butchering again until November!

I planned to get about 20 lbs of beef and 20 joint juices.

The Joint Juice coupons that I used (B1G1 and $1/1) produced overage and beeped as they scanned – so YMMV!

The overage I got went towards my ground beef.  It was great to stock up at such a great price.

Fun for the Family!

My DH and I were wanting a fun family night – we thought of eating out – but, it just made us tired thinking of taking three kids into a restaurant at 5pm on a Sunday night!

So, DH came up with a great idea! Here it is:

GOALS: 1. To create a memory for the girls to cherish. Fun family time together. 2. To teach the girls about choices and how to spend money wisely. 3. To save money by not choosing to dine out!

We made our kitchen into a restaurant and DH and I were the waiter and waitress.

I made a ‘MENU’ and printed it from my computer. I listed MAIN DISHES, SIDES, DRINKS, and DESSERTS. All had prices – just like a regular menu.

I gave each of the girls a bunch of coins to ‘pay’ for their order.

I took their orders from the luxury of their dining area (aka living room floor with a blanket spread out and a trunk as their table) – Addison being strongwilled as she always is – suggested we add some items to the menu to suit her needs!

So, with their orders taken – DH and I headed to the kitchen and prepared their dinners. We had listed things on the menu that we needed to consume (leftovers).

We prepared, delivered to their tables, and they were both happy as anything!

It was a really fun thing – not much time to make it special, and they sure enjoyed it!

So, it saved us a dinner out (would have been a minimum of $30 to eat out)!

The girls placing their orders. Addison knew what she wanted immediately and began to place her order. Aubrey had to change her mind from PB&J to a Cheeseburger! They got to count out their money out and pay for their meals.

Enjoying their meal in front of the TV! Aubrey wouldn’t take her eyes from it. They both ate all their food!IMG_1619

Rainchecks….Rainchecks!

Ok, so I got a raincheck last week from Walgreens for their $.99 Right Guard deodorants.  I had a few more $1/1 coupons and they were out of the deodorant.

Some of you might have seen that this week they are running $2 RR when you buy 1 Right Guard product for $2.99.

So, my raincheck is going to earn me FREE deodorant (it will be $.99/1 and I will use the $1/1 MQ) AND a $2 RR!  I am hoping the nice cashier will honor it for the qty they made it for – and do separate transactions for me so I can get my RRs.

Depending on the cashier, I might make $12 RRs – the raincheck is for 6 deodorants!

We will see!

CVS Score Today!!

I was so excited today!  This deal has several layers – so I hope I don’t lose you trying to describe how I got my savings!  First, I love Aveeno products!  I have always used them on my kiddo’s – because of their sensitive skin – now I have it for myself!  Ahhhhhh!

FIRST:  I had a $10 off of a $50 purchase (CVS coupon)

SECOND:  I had a $10/3 Aveeno Positively Ageless Products

Ok, so I wanted to see how I could manage this transaction!  I really wanted to use the $10/50 but didn’t know how I was going to get to $50!

So, I snagged some $9.99/1 FreeStyle Lite Glucose Blood Monitor coupons from ZM’s (thanks for the idea!)

I went to the register with three Aveeno facial cleansers and two FreeStyle Lites.  My subtotal came a bit shy of $50!  So, Aubrey quickly added in ‘ice cube’ gum for $1.29!  OUCH! I only buy gum when it is FREE!

First:  Pardon my abstract math – I don’t have the receipt by my keyboard, and quite honestly, I am too lazy at this point to walk twenty steps to get it!  But, I am sure you will get the just of the savings!

So, $50 subtotal MINUS $10/50 CVS Q MINUS $10/3 Aveeno MQ MINUS 2 - $9.99 MQs for FreeStyles EQUALED:  a bit over $11!  AND – GUESS WHAT!!!!  I got $10 ECBs back b/c I bought $20 or more in Aveeno products!  Woo Hoo!  I was so excited!

Three great facial cleaners for a bit over $1!!

May your day be ‘just frugalicious’!

If you haven’t printed your Eggo Bake Shop $1/1 Coupon you can get two per computer here.

Rainchecks, my friend…..

Yes, they are sorta a pain in the behind.  First to remember to get them when products are out.  Then, to have a system to keep them in order and remember that you have them….  Then, to redeem them when the time is right.

But, Rainchecks, my friend, will become your friend – just get a system down and begin using them!

Last week, I ended up getting several rainchecks:  Dawn Pure Essentials $2.09 at Target, Mtn. Dew 4/$10 at Target, Aveeno at CVS (did you know that they honor ECBs on Rainchecks!)……  This week I got a raincheck for the Always Pads at CVS.

I was soooo excited this past weekend when I saw the $.50/1 Dawn Cleaning Product TARGET coupon in the weekly inserts!  I had gotten a raincheck for 6 of them (they wouldn’t do one for more than 6) and I had $1.50/1 MQs.  Well – with the $1.50/1 MQ + $50/1 TQ – it made the Dawn $.09 per bottle!  WOOO HOOO!!!!

So, as my luck goes at Target – yeah, I lifted my ban on the Fry Rd and I-10 Target Store for the day today – just to save gas…….  I had a cashier that gave me the line “You have too many coupons – I need to get them figured out.  Four people have been fired for taking coupons incorrectly.”  She tried to tell me that my Dawn wouldn’t work b/c it was going to have overage – I told her, “No, it is going to be $2 off – so it will be $.09 each”  She huffed and puffed – but took the coupons and sent me on my way.

So, because of my raincheck – the soap that would have been $.59 last week turned into $.09 this week – b/c of the added coupon that was in this past weekend’s inserts!  THANKS, Target!!

Aubrey’s School Supplies

I came out of last week with a lot of ECBs burning a hole in my pocket (particularly one that expires on the 27th).  I have decided to use any ECBs (cvs) and RRs (walgreens) to try to build Aubrey’s school supply list that she will need as she heads into First Grade in August.  The school charges $93 for this “edupac”, and I want to try to see how little I can pay for it, if I plan ahead and use my resources (ecbs and rrs) to make these purchases.

On Saturday, I shopped at Walgreens to use my last two Cakester coupons – I needed fillers b/c I wanted to use a RR to pay.  I used Walgreens $.99 glue for the filler.  Check!  Something else is off the list!

This morning we stopped at CVS and in the 90% off cart was Post-It Highlighters – they were 2-ct packs of yellow and pink highlighters.  These were marked to $.49 per pack.  That is $.25 for one highlighter.  She needed two.  Got them!  Check, two more things off the list!  I actually purchased all they had of the highlighters (two other mom’s and I have promised to snag bargains as needed – so that we can help each other build the “edupac” at a great price) and needed $6 worth of stuff to use my $10 ECB.  So, I added in 2 – Purell hand sanitizers and wa-la – It came to $9.90.  She took my ECB down to $9.90 and were good to go.

I already have kleenex (thanks, Anne) that I bartered for a while back.  And, we have the pink plastic ruler from her Kindergarten year that we will reuse.   We also have the sandwich bags ($.99 from Walgreens) and storage bags (free at Target) as well.

Stockpiling at Rock Bottom Prices

My good friend Brandy went with me to Randall’s today as I attempted to show her how the matchups with loadables worked with paper coupons – thus getting a lot of stuff for cheap!

While I was checking out, Brandy looked at the stuff in the cart – then looked at me and asked the same question she has often asked, “But when do you do your ‘real’ grocery shopping?”  She said she would use all the stuff I purchased today, but wondered about all the other needed grocery list items….

I just came across this article at Money Saving Mom that really detailed the thought process, so I thought I would share it with you!  This blog is great, so if you don’t have it on RSS feed now, be sure to add it!

Pairing up Randall’s deals with Cellfire & Shortcuts loadables!

I found out about a great deal at Randall’s – when loadable coupons are on your card – the register is deducting Cellfire and Shortcuts coupons for one item at the same time.

Here is how it worked:

Warm Delights $2.59 MINUS $.50 (cellfire) MINUS $.50 (shortcuts) MINUS $.50 (IP) = $.59

Chex Trail Mix $2.00 MINUS $.50 (shortcuts) MINUS $.60 (shortcuts) MINUS $.50 (cellfire) MINUS $.60 (insert) –$.20

Chex Cereal Bars $3.49 MINUS $.60 (shortcuts) MINUS $.60 (cellfire) MINUS $.50 (IP) = $1.79

Lucky Charms $2.50 MINUS $.60 (shortcuts) MINUS $.50/1 (IP) = $.90

Betty Crocker Frosting Tub $1.99 MINUS $.50 (shortcuts) MINUS $.50 (cellfire) MINUS $1.00 for $.50/1 (IP) MINUS $.75 for $.25/1 (peelie)     = –$.76

2 - Betty Crocker Fruit Gushers $2.79ea MINUS $.50 (shortcuts) MINUS $.75 (shortcuts) MINUS $.50 (cellfire) MINUS $1.00 for $.50 (IP) = $2.83/2 I messed up here there are OYNO catalinas printing wyb 3, 4 or 5 boxes!  That is a pretty hefty price for these gushers…..I probably shouldn’t have gotten them at all!!

6 – Yoplait Yogurts $.55 each MINUS $.55 (loadable) MINUS $.40 (shortcuts) MINUS $.55 (loadable) MINUS $1 for $.50/6 (IP) = $.80

Yo-Plus Yogurt $2.50 MINUS $1 (cellfire) MINUS $1 (shortcuts) MINUS $1 (IP) = –$.50

Colgate Total $1.49 MINUS $1/1 (6/7 SS) I must have grabbed the wrong toothpaste because the cellfire loadables didn’t show up on my receipt – they are for Total Advanced – so be sure you grab the right one!. = $.49

Green Grapes – we needed some at the house and they had them $.78/lb! = $1.40

A special thanks to ZM at KatyCouponers for blogging about this so early!  I am going to make one more trip with my remaining loadables matched up with my coupons to see if I can get a few more great deals!

Hefty Fresh Extend 20ct at TARGET

There is a decent deal at Super Target on Hefty Fresh Extend 20ct OneZip Bags.

HeftyFreshExtend

These Fresh Extend bags are priced at $1.87 – I am guessing it is clearance priced.  None have been signed at any Target that I have visited – so it was a deal that I stumbled upon by simply scanning the barcode at the price check scanner.  For each box that you purchase, you can use both of these coupons below:

$1/1 from 6/7 RP

GO HERE for a $1 wyb Produce item (1) AND Hefty Fresh Extend bags, 20-ct. Target Printable

YMMV on how many the store will allow you to do in one transaction.  Tonight, I purchased 4 in one transaction and had no troubles at all.  For the produce items, I purchased 1 lemon, 1 lime, and 2 cartons of strawberries.  (For the strawberries there is also a $1/1 Target Printable that you can use along with the coupons above)

Depending on the produce that you pick, your bags AND produce could be free.

Daily Schedule, I think it is working!

Before we headed to Target today, we did all our morning schedule, breakfast, brushed teeth, made beds, clean sweeped upstairs…..then, headed out the door!

We got back from Target a little later than expected – but headed straight to naptime and the rest of the afternoon.

We are finishing up day 5 of the schedule life.  And, to my dismay, ummmm  I have to admit that my husband was right…..  Oh, that is so hard to say.  Why do I have to say it so often……  uggghhh……

I am sitting here, the kids are in bed, and the upstairs is neat, tidy, clean, ahhhhh, it feels so good.

The girls really like the schedule, and in a matter of 5 days, even Addison, our 3 year old knows the sequence of events throughout the day.  She knows that right after naps, we do laundry (if we have any) – then we get to play outside or do crafts or something fun like that!

I am amazed that I don’t really feel like a fish out of water!  I feel really great about how the upstairs looks….and, the living room and kitchen are in good shape, too.

My next project is my office and my husband’s office.  Then, we will be good to go!

BUMMER!!!!  I should have bought more yesterday!  I only bought one package and am so disappointed that I didn’t get more when the promotion was going on!!

I just got off the phone with CVS.  They said they pulled the promotion as of 10am this morning.  They were having troubles with it……

She was able to give me a “one time” $5 ECB that will print within 48 hours at the store.

The deal has been pulled from www.cvs.com and is no longer valid.

What a bummer!!

My Kroger Trip Last Night

After a reminder of a great deal using some awesome coupons at Kroger from ZM, I gathered up what coupons I had and ran to Kroger after the kids went to bed. (I did this because the coupons EXPIRED 6/6! Tip: Never wait that long to use HOT coupons!)

I ended up with a lot more coupons than usual for this deal, because my DH won a Freecycle Coupon giveaway from Heather. In it were a bunch of the coupons I used on this excursion!

So, first, thanks to ZM for the reminder of this deal and thanks to Heather for all the great coupons!

So this is a bit crazy, I will try to be as detailed as possible and make it as easy to follow as possible.

First – TOTAL CASH OOP: $.31

Here is what I got:

1 – Jumbo Packages of Kroger Diapers (on sale $6.99 USED $3 printable)

4 – Kraft Dressings ($1.69 USED $1.50 coupon)

1 – package of chicken drumsticks ($2.97 USED $2 poultry coupon when I purchased 2 qualifying KRAFT products)

1 – package of chicken thighs ($3.15 USED $2 poultry coupon when I purchased 2 qualifying KRAFT products)

18 – Wholly Salsas (USED 9 BYG1 coupons AND 9 $1/1 coupons)

18 – bags of assorted chips (pretzels, doritos, fritos, cheetos, etc USED $3 your favorite chips WYB Wholly Salsa

1 – Hunts Ketchup 24 oz bottle ($1.69 USED FREE coupon)

1 – Dial Pump Soap ($1 USED $.35/1 coupon)

2 – Country Time Lemonade (USED Raincheck AND $1.50/2 printable)

5 – 12 packs Mountain Dew

TOTAL: $147.37

USED $25 RX reward (did this accidentally not thinking – then had to add the Mountain Dew (your welcome DH) to use up my negative balance.

We are now set on JUNK food for a while! I plan on making Fajitas this week with the chicken and having salsa to go with it!!!

Another tip – keep your coupons organized and it will be easy to pull coupons fast and be ready to shop! To gather these at the last minute last night, I used HOT COUPON WORLD'S coupon database to find where the coupons were. Then, I went to my hanging file folder drawer, pulled the inserts and clipped the coupons! It was simple to find them quickly when I had them organized!

Unadvertised PAMPERS deal at CVS

VISIT CVS.com for the details.  But, CVS is running a deal only advertised on their website, but only good at their stores.  Pampers jumbo sized packages are on sale (with card) for $8.99.  When you buy a package, you earn $5 in ECBs.  This promo runs thru the 13th.

There will be $1/1 in this week’s inserts.  (These make a package of Pampers $2.99 after ECBs)  Or, if you are lucky enough to have the P&GbrandSAVER $120 in savings booklet, there are $2/1 coupons there (These make a package of Pampers $1.99 after ECBs).

A word to the wise…..since it is unadvertised (not in their flyer) – you might want to print off the webpage above, just as support, if you run into any troubles.

Get it together, lady.

Yeah, I am talking about me.  I am trying to get it together.

I use to work for Nordstrom, a major retailer, for nearly 10 years.  I ran three different store Visual Merchandising Teams during my time with them at one point I was the Regional Visual Manager for a handful of stores in Texas.  I left a couple years ago to pursue a photography business and be able to spend more time with the kiddos.  I did this thinking – this is gonna be great, I don’t have to work, I get to stay home with my kids….this is gonna be so EASY.  Well, folks, it isn’t easy, it is actually hard.

Ten months ago, we welcomed our third child into our family.  The photography business is growing and in January I began ‘extreme couponing’.

Our oldest just finished her last day of Kindergarten yesterday.  I can’t believe the year went by so fast.  Summer vacation is upon me.

I have to say that Chad (DH) has been on me to make a schedule for our home.  I know that it is a great idea, but for the past year (maybe longer) I have felt like I couldn’t even begin to think of doing a schedule with so much chaos in my life….three kids, photography business, messy house (can’t have anyone over syndrome), kindergarten, preschool, friends, family, oh – and did I forget husband?

So, last night, I made a schedule.  It was a rough outline that will probably change a bunch by the time we are done with the summer.  But, I decided to make it last night because I knew that without some structure one of the four of us would probably not survive the summer – maybe not even the first full week of summer!

I will admit it might be hard to follow……the times are down the left side, the task is the next column.  Then, the days of the week are listed in the following columns.  These columns note specific things we will do on days of the week / times of the day.

Most of you will probably read this and think that I am off my rocker!!  But, I have got to establish some type of order in all this chaos of raising three kids, running a business, couponing, and trying to keep the house in some type of order!

So far today, it has gone well.  I think that the girls actually like being able to look at a list and see what we have completed and what is left to do.  Aubrey liked checking off stuff as it was completed (she takes after me on that).  Addison – well, she didn’t want to do anything, but we managed to get her on board!  She is now resisting naptime, but at least she is resting alone in her room!

I will keep you posted on our progress – and if anyone has any helpful hints on how to manage a home – it would be greatly appreciated!!

I love me some bartering!

Tonight I bartered with Gina – who I met when I was preparing to do the coupon class last month.

Gina and I bartered.  She deals in Southern Living – and I am a extreme couponer with a stockpile.  So, we bartered!

I got a fireplace screen (i had always wanted one – and am so happy I have one now!)  It is beautiful and works great in our living room AND I got a nativity set!  I am so happy!!!!

I hope Gina was as happy with her loot as I was with mine!!  She got toilet paper, Bertolli, Dove and Olay Soaps, J&J Body Wash, Venus razor, Garnier products, and other stuff!

The moral of the story is “Don’t be afraid to ask someone to barter with you!”   If you can trade goodies with no cash being exchanged and come out of the deal with both people being happy…..then, it is a great way to get what you want/need!!

This is a coupon that will ONLY be valid w/ a $20 or more purchase – so plan accordingly!! (My plan is to take part in the MIX AND MATCH deal to help me get to my $20 minimum)

Combine the STORE coupon with these manufacturer coupons (be sure to print both)

GO HERE for a $.50/1 Lucky Charms coupon AND a $1/3 General Mills Cereals

AND then, go to CELLFIRE and load the $.55/1 Lucky Charms coupon onto your Randall’s Card.

AND then, to to www.shortcuts.com and load two coupons: $.55/1 Lucky Charms AND $.55/1 Honey Nut Cheerios

Now you are set. Go to Randall’s. Get TWO Lucky Charms, ONE Honey Nut Cheerios, and ONE of the other qualifying cereals (Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs OR Cocoa Puffs Combos).

Here is the math on the cereal:

$6 (for 4 boxes)

MINUS $1 ($.50/1 Lucky Charms coupon)

MINUS $.55 (cellfire loadable coupon)

MINUS $1.10 (2 - $.55/1 shortcuts loadable coupons)

MINUS $1/3 printable coupon

EQUALS $2.35 for 4 boxes of cereal OR $.59 per box.

While this ISN’T my rock bottom stockpile price, I will be partaking in the offer because my girls have been wanting Lucky Charms for a LONG TIME!!! So, we are excited about this price!!

Thanks ZM for your addition of Shortcuts loadables! www.katycouponers.blogspot.com

Frugal Decor

Well, I have to share my latest project at the house! It should have been done about 10 mths ago – but I have been a bit busy juggling a third child…..a kindergartener…..and a middle child that is – well, let’s just say “strongwilled”.

But, I set my mind to finish this project.

The Nursery!!

I bought the bedding, curtains, and accessory pillows at Target. Yes, it was the Target that I have since boycotted because of their lack of hospitality to couponers! But, at the time -- this was in August last year, the bedding was clearanced and I totally scored on the purchase!

I had some 20” Square canvases that I had bought from a Display Sale at my old job…..they were always going to be used for some kind of project. I am a total packrat like that. I have a hard time throwing something away that might be able to be used in some creative format! So, the canvases were really cheap – because they were used and all I had to do was paint them!

When I bought the bedding, I purchased three crib sheets. I had in mind that I would use one of them for a “project” for his room. The middle Giraffe and the bow ties on the chocolate brown Giraffes were made from that crib sheet! I have enough left to make another throw pillow!

I saw a room similar to this in Pottery Barn Kids when I was expecting Evan. The horizontal stripes and the very clean and simple canvases caught my eye! And now, it is almost complete. I have just a few other little touches I need to do…..but, I consider these pictures a good representation of the final product!

The most expensive part of this was the paint – which I bought too much of – and will have a couple other rooms of the house soon painted in the same tan base color! I really like the color!
