Is there such a thing?

Is there such a thing as too many deals??  I am just wondering this….because, I just did a run to Randalls – tomorrow is the last day of their $5 Mix and Match Promotion.  I really never thought I would get such great deals at Randalls!  And, to think there was a time that we shopped there pretty much each week and spent well over $100!

Each week of this extreme couponing, I think, “WOW, these deals can’t get better than this!”  But, each week they do!

FIRST:  Sunday I shopped at Randalls and did the Mix and Match.  I used the chip coupons ($.55/1) from last week’s paper (I believe.)  to get Fritos and Cheetos…..  Well, I guess I grabbed the wrong bag – and I didn’t notice it until I returned home.  I was charged $3.99 for the bag and by picking the wrong one up, I didn’t get my second $5 Mix and Match deal.  I went to Customer Service with the chips and the receipt.  With little explanation, the cashier gave me $5 cash AND $2 cash (for the difference in the price of the chips that I mis-grabbed.  I told him I would go grab the correct bag.  He told me – “Don’t worry, just keep the bag you have……all is good!”  I repeated it back to him to make sure I was clear…..and walked away happy with my $7 cash!

SECOND:  I did three mix and match transactions…….I spent $8.26 total.  Here is what I got – coupons are listed after in parenthesis:

Kraft Dressing 5 ($1.50/1 coupon)

Crystal Light 6 (buy 2 get 1 free)

A&W Soda 12 pack 2 ($1/1 peelie)

Sunkist Soda 12 pack 3 ($1/1 peelie)

Duncan Hines Cake Mix 3 ($.35/1)

Softsoap 3 ($.35/1)

Suave Body Wash 6 ($2/3)

Halls Cough Drops 5 ($1/1)

All of these coupons came from recent paper inserts – the peelies were on the 12packs of soda at Randalls.

All but the Softsoap was included in the Mix and Match.

The Softsoap was on sale for $1.00.  The coupon triples – for $1.05 off!  FREE!!

I also did the Bertolli deal and made out like a bandit!  Thanks for the heads up, Jane4girls!  Now, I just have to find a great deal on some wine to go with my Italian evening!

Bartering Stockpiles

It is so great to have a group of people couponing like we are here in Katy!  This past week was great!  Here is deal I did with one of my good friends….

My friend Anne asked if I had any J&J Baby Products coupon.  Her daughter wanted some buddie bars.  I didn’t have any coupons, but I definitely have a stockpile of buddie bars!  So, of course, she asked me what I needed in exchange.  Apple Juice and Kleenex came to mind.  So, the trade was formed.  She got 5 buddie bars, I got 2 apple juices and two boxes of kleenex!  We were both happy and on our way!

A Lot of Learnin’ Left to Do!

Well….I think I have gotten the whole Walgreens thing down….then Kroger….wow, I thought I was doing great…..  Then, I ventured into Randall’s yesterday to try to do their Frozen Food Promotion going on right now…..  Ummm…to say the least, I was quickly put into my place as  a ‘coupon newbie’ again!

First, the checker was less than thrilled when he saw me approach his lane (three kids in tow), two coupon binders, a cart full of stuff….and coupons in hand!  I could tell he was annoyed before he even began.

FIRST: For the frozen food deal…..I was told by a customer service person that the $10 Catalina is limited to one per Randall’s card holder per day……I am not sure if that it right…….ZM, can you confirm???

SECOND:  There was a Treetop Apple Juice sale $2.69 ea…..I had $1/2 coupons….there was a big shelf tag w/ picture – picturing that juice in the $5 off when you buy 5 products.  SCORE, I thought…..WRONG.  It didn’t ring up in the register as being a part of that promo……  I was saddened!!

THIRD:  I wanted to do the Aqua Pod deal again….they had 6 pkgs of the water, I needed 10 to do the deal……no luck…..put the 6 back before I started to ring up!

So, to customer service I headed after I realized most of this AFTER I checked out…..  I returned the juices…..I wasn’t about to pay that much for juice!  Isn’t if funny how two months ago I would have been excited it was $2.69!!!  Now, I am not happy unless it is on sale, there is a promo going on, AND I have a coupon!!!  I returned the freezer stuff that didn’t spit out a catalina for $10……  And, I sadly collected my coupons I used in that transaction.

I plan to head back today to take advantage of the sale once again!  Hope this time will be better!

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' at Walgreens

Well, I had RRs (register rewards) burning a hole in my pocket..... So, off we went this morning. (Yes, me and the three kiddos! One strapped to me -- the other two into everything and driving me bonkers!)

I went looking for Dove bars, Vanity Fair Napkins (clearanced to .75 for a pkg of 40) -- no luck on either of those.

Here is what I did find:

Listerine Deal:
I bought three products for $9 - used $3/3 coupon from last week's paper and got $6 RR back! That makes those products -- yep, you guessed it -- FREE!

Crest Pro Health:
Small tubes are clearanced at Walgreens for $.95. I used a $.50 coupon from Sunday inserts and got back $1 RR. Yep, FREE again (plus overage)

Tylenol Deal:
I bought 2 qualifying products, used coupons, and got $3 RR back.....

I will post back with details of the transactions with total OOP ect.

Kroger Run 03.12.09

Well, I had the Catalinas from the Pillsbury deal burning a hole in my pocket (and Chad needed some Mt. Dew) so, the three kids and I headed to Kroger tonight.

I spent some time reviewing the ad prior to heading to shop. It really didn't take me too long.... I had been collecting more Pillsbury coupons -- so that while the Catalina promo was going on I could take advantage of the rain check that I had from the 10/$10 event. I scanned the ad to make sure I had most of my coupons gathered going into the trip.

I will only bore you with exact details if you ask.....but, here are the highlights.....

To paint a picture for you......three kids in tow. No 'fun' cart in sight (this is usually my saving grace to keep everyone restrained for the most part of the shopping trip) -- it was raining pretty hard and I guess all of them were out in the parking lot. One kid strapped onto the Infantino carrier....two kids walking beside me -- fussing at each other each minute. While I was grabbing the Chex mix an older gentleman passed....while the girls were fussing.....then got my attention and proceeded to tell me that "she" (Aubrey, our oldest) was the instigator of the fussing match. Thanks, kind stranger for bringing my attention to the details!

I was happiest when Chad rounded the corner (he stopped on his way home from work).....to help manage the remainder of the shopping trip.

I took advantage of the 'buy 10 items get $5 back' promo going on this week. And, I got three more rounds of the 'buy 5 pillsbury products get $3' catalina. I got the 10/$10 price b/c I had a raincheck from that promo period. I had catalinas from prior promos (buying a bunch of pillsbury products).....
I did three different transactions -- to maximize my catalinas (I wanted to buy three sets of 5 pillsbury products -- this made me $9.00! I made sure that -- while I spread out those transactions I didn't use more than three like coupons in one transaction. (otherwise they won't double OR triple).
Here is what I came out with:
Trans #1
OOP $.67
Total Saved: $32.63 (97%)
Trans #2
OOP $.00
Total Saved: $5 (100%)
Trans #3
OOP $.25
Total Saved: $70.36 (97%)
I must admit that I was so excited to see my totals that -- YES......I forgot Chad's Mtn. Dew..... OOPS!!!

Channel 13 Bartering Segment

Huggies Are Great at Walgreens!

Wags_trip_030809

Well, today was the day! The awesome coupons that we printed recently from http://www.coupons.com/ went to VERY good use! I pre-planned the Huggies special at Walgreens by shopping last week – to build my RR stash. I started the day with $56 in RR. I know, that is extreme….the RR came from specials last week and the week before …… dove, carmex, colgate toothpaste, etc…

I had a bunch of printable $5 coupons…..I had asked friends and family to print what they could….so my stash of those was pretty large!

This is what I did step by step:

Transaction #1

  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Wipes 232 ct ($6) -$5 printable
  • 2 - Walgreens Coloring Book (filler) ($.99 ea)

  • USED: $10 RR
  • OOP: 1.06
  • $10 RR BACK

Transaction #2

  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Wipes 232 ct ($6) -$5 printable
  • 2 - Walgreens Coloring Book (filler) ($.99 ea)

  • USED: $8 & $2 RR
  • OOP: $1.06
  • $10 RR BACK

Transaction #3

  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Wipes 232 ct ($6) -$5 printable
  • 2 - Walgreens Coloring Book (filler) ($.99 ea)

  • USED: $10 RR
  • OOP: $1.06
  • $10 RR BACK

Transaction #4

  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Wipes 232 ct ($6) -$5 printable
  • 1 - Walgreens Coloring Book (filler) ($.99 ea)

  • USED: $8 RR
  • OOP: $2.15
  • $10 RR BACK

Transaction #5

  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Diapers ($10) -$5 printable, -$1 Wags coloring book
  • Huggies Wipes 232 ct ($6) -$5 printable
  • 1 - Walgreens Coloring Book (filler) ($.99 ea)

  • USED: $8 RR
  • OOP: $2.15
  • $10 RR BACK

TRANSACTION #6

  • 7 – Garnier Fructis Styling Products Used $2 Easy Saver Coupon
  • Used 6 - $1/1 Insert Coupon from today’s paper & stockpile from past papers (I bought some off of ebay a while back)!

  • OOP: $1.01

  • Total OOP for the entire trip: $8.49
  • Total RR Spent: $46
  • Total RR Back: $50

Some notes to know! I had to add the coloring books into the transactions b/c when using RR to pay for a transaction, the register will freak out if the number of coupons exceeds the number of items being purchased. Also, if the amount owed is less that $1 it will do the same thing!

The coloring book coupons – the lady said they don’t have to keep them. They only need the number from the coupon. When they enter the number into the transaction the coupon is deducted from EACH qualifying item.

And, in case you are wondering, when doing multiple purchases of a RR earning item, you have to do multiple transactions to get the appropriate rewards.

And, one more thing! You can’t use RR you have earned from say, the Huggies promo to buy more Huggies and get more RR. You have to ROLL them into a purchase of a different product to get the appropriate RR.

Dole Fruit Cups at Brookshire Brothers in Katy

Brookshire Brothers currently has the Dole Fruit Cups (all varieties) on sale B1G1F.  They are priced at $2.75.  I had coupons $1/2 Dole Parfaits and $.75/2 Dole Fruit Cup.  So final price per 4 pack Parfaits ended up being $.88 and per 4 pack fruit cup ended up being $1.   Not free, by any means, but they work great in lunches – and the price was $1.98 ea at Walmart.  So, it was a bit of a savings.

Walgreens Learning

I am learning with each transaction at Walgreens. I went to purchase my Dove soap bars for the promo. I found more Blink & a couple tubes of carmex..... But, I really don't think that I did it all right. I really need to remember to take my time and contemplate each transaction so that I don't feel rushed at the register when I am standing with two or three kids at my feet trying to get into everything! I will detail out my week in my next post, and let you know how I faired!

Have a great night ..... and a fabulous weekend!

I emailed customer service at RiceWorks just to make sure that this was a good coupon. It is not and I have removed it from here. I also have tossed all my printed copies. Sorry for the confusion.

Pillsbury Craziness

Everyone knows about the deal at Kroger last week on the Pillsbury products (10/$10). Well, it took this 'newbie' quite a while to figure it out.....but, this is what I did:

I had these coupons in various qtys:

$.35/1
$.30/1
$.25/1

The catalina deal is buy 5 and get $3 catalina.

Well, I compiled my coupons and ended up with 5 sets of 5 this AM. (I had to get a raincheck last night because they didn't have everything I needed to make this deal happen.)

So, I went in this AM and they had everything I needed:

I got 25 pillsbury products (cinnamon rolls and cresent rolls)
I spent: $1.75 total after doing 5 different transactions.
I got $15 back in catalinas.

The key was using no more than three like coupons within one transaction -- to get the best bang for my buck!

I think this is the best bargain that I have gotten so far.

Frugalicious Tip

Play the RX game......

Chad just got an RX refilled at CVS......

I started to get irritated, because now with the new 'frugalicious' shopping that I am doing, I watch every penny and know that transferring RX's can really benefit you.

My irritation subsided when we found out that CVS would honor the coupon for the $25 gift card that Walgreens would give us to transfer the RX to them.

So, Chad went to pick up his RX and came home with a $25 Gift Card to CVS. $10 OOP for the RX, $25 gift card -- makes a profit of $15!

Remember to clip those coupons that are in the sales ads from time to time -- even if you don't need them at that time, you might need them later -- before they expire!

Currently Randalls has one that runs until April 3rd. It is for a $30 gift card to Randalls. I am sure we will need an RX filled before that coupon's expiration date! This coupon was in the sale flyer for this past week's sale.

WALGREENS 03.01.09

Well, today was pretty neat at Walgreens. I knew I had an extremely busy week coming up and I didn't want to take the chance of missing out of deals b/c of something being sold out.....so....here goes!

I started the day with a Walgreens $25 gift card from transferring a RX last week. The RX was $10 and they gave me a $25 gift card! (I am smiling....)

Anyway, I just wanted to see what I could do with it.....

So....

I went this AM as we were out on our errands (that trip is noted in my earlier post from today)

Then, I gathered up all my other coupons for the goodies I had on my list.....and this is what I ended up with on my second trip of the day.....

I took advantage of the Sambucol Flu and Cold deal. (used $4 coupon printable & $10 Easy Saver coupon) The shelf price was $12.99. I made $4.04 on that purchase.

Blink Tears Drops (I had a $2 off coupons from the Red Plum today) -- and they gave me $8 back in Register Rewards. I made $2.01 on each of those.

1 - Revlon Clippers ($2.49) and 2 - Emery Boards ($1.59)
I used $1.00 Walgreens Coupon & three $1 clipped coupons from the Sunday paper. I made $.33 on that purchase.

I had a raincheck from last night for the Reynolds Wrap ($.89 each). Just in case you didn't think I had enough! I used 3 $1/1 coupons -- they wouldn't take the 4th coupon b/c of the overage. (That mistake cost me $.56 -- crap! I should have just grabbed one more roll of Reynolds Wrap. I am still learning!!)

5 - Reach Dental Floss ($1.79)
I used the $.99 coupon from the Walgreens flyer this week & $1/1 Reach Floss clipped coupon.
I made $.05 on this.

2 - Colgate MAX Fresh ($3.49)
Used $1/printable coupon. Got $3.50 Register Reward back for each tube (Total $7 RR) I made
$2.02 on this.

2 - Colgate Total
I used $.99 coupon from the Walgreens flyer this week & $1/1 clipped coupon.

So, I started the day with a $25 gift card. I ended the day with $7.78 remaining balance on the gift card PLUS $31 in RR. So, I made $13.78 today! And got a bunch of stuff!

My plan is to use the $31 RR to purchase Huggies next week at Walgreens. The girls at http://www.commonsensewithmoney.com/ are reporting this:
The week of 3/8 there will be a Register rewards promotion at Walgreens: buy $25 in Huggies products and get $10 in Register Rewards back. The jumbo packs will be on sale for $10 each. With three of these coupons you can get three jumbo packs for $5 after coupons and register rewards!!

YIPPEE!

Frugalicious Finds!

Ok, so who would have ever known that if you put a little effort into your shopping trips, you could get a bunch of free stuff (and if it isn't free it is darn close to it!).

I didn't have a chance to do a picture this time, only because we were juggling three kiddos....and wanted to get the groceries put away fairly quickly!

I have depleted all but about $7 of my $100 budget for the week. But, I do have a $25 giftcard to Walgreens & CVS ECBs to get me by for the rest of the week.

I will post a wrap up of the total savings this week!
