GREAT JOY: A Season of Compassion

GreatJoy I read a book with my oldest daughter this morning, it was called ‘Great Joy’ written by Kate DiCamillo and fantastic illustrations by Bagram Ibatoulline.

We picked it up at the Scholastic Book Fair last night at her school.  I love to purchase Christmas books – we keep them under our tree and try to read a few each week during the season.

I have to say that this one IMPRESSED me so very much.  It is a beautiful story.  I read it slowly and meaningfully to my six year old who sat on my lap all snuggly and warm – after she just woke up from her long night’s sleep.

After we read the book, we sat and talked about the meaning of compassion, and I think that with the help of this book, she got it.  She understood.

I have been fortunate enough to work with Jac from A SIMPLE THREAD over the past several years.  Ya’ll, A SIMPLE THREAD is doing some great things here in Houston.

Tomorrow, I am heading her way, and taking these goodies.  These items will be added to ‘KITS’ that will be put together and distributed to homeless people in need of very basic necessities  -- those that you and I might take for granted each day.

So, to all of you justfrugalicious couponers out there, consider gathering items from your stockpile that could benefit those in need.  And, consider A SIMPLE THREAD as a recipient of the goods you gather.

GREAT JOY!  Spread GREAT JOY to those in need, it is appreciated so much by each person who receives a kit from A SIMPLE THREAD – or any other organization that works for the same cause!

May your day be ‘just frugalicious’

  1. I loved this post Kimberly. God Bless you for your kindness toward others. This is something my husband and I are trying to instill in our daughters. Charity, giving, and kindness towards others (more fortunate and less fortunate than themselves).
